Heavy rain, flash floods headed for the state
Heavy rain is on the way to the Hawaiian Islands, bringing the threat of flash flooding once again. The National Weather Services (NWS) has issued a flood watch for all main Hawaiian islands from this morning to late Wednesday night due to a trough passing over the state. Forecasters predict that the "monster trough" will bring abundant tropical moisture from the southwest to the isles, where it is expected to remain nearly stationary for a few days. This could lead to heavy rain, isolated thunderstorms, and potential flooding across all isles. Tropical Storm Olana, which is expected later to degenerate into a remnant low, is also expected to bring up to 30 inches of total rainfall to Hawaii. Oahu and Maui County are at the highest risk of flooding. Kauai County officials have urged residents and visitors to prepare for flash flooding and landslides.
