Kihei man, 37, dies in motorcycle collision with SUV
A 37-year-old man from Kihei died Friday night after a collision with another vehicle on Piilani Highway near the intersection of Kaonoulu Street. A 37-year-old man from Kihei, Maui, died following a motorcycle collision on Piilani Highway near Kaonoulu Street. The collision occurred at approximately 7:34 p.m. Friday, when a man driving a white Ford Edge made a left turn northbound onto Piiloni Highway and a man riding a red Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with the SUV. The motorcyclist was ejected from his Harley and transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The 18-year old Ford Edge driver, who was uninjured, was arrested for negligent injury and later released pending further investigation. This marked Maui County's 11th traffic fatality this year compared to 14 at the same time last year.
