HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Kauai Police Department are implementing a new resource in their fight against crime and gives the community the opportunity to assist law enforcement.

City Protect is a program that allows residents and businesses to register their security camera locations and allow law enforcement to know who to contact if a crime occurs in the area.

KPD said registration does not obligate the resident to provide footage to the police and police will not have direct access to the camera or the system.

If police are in need of footage, they will contact the registered residents to make a request, saving time that would have been spent going door to door asking about external cameras.

“This program is designed to deter crime and promote public safety through a proactive partnership between residents, businesses and KPD,” Lieutenant Stacy Perreira said in a news release.

Registration can be withdrawn at any time. To register a camera, visit the City Protect website.
