Puna man charged after stolen truck crashes during police pursuit
His request for supervised release was denied Wednesday, and bail was maintained at $72,000. Puna man, 65-year-old Arthur Clayton Jr., has been charged with first-degree theft and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, driving without a license, and reckless driving. The stolen Toyota Tacoma was spotted by police on Government Beach Road, leading to a police pursuit where the driver refused to stop and eventually veered off the road and hit a telephone pole. Clayton allegedly ran from the truck but was apprehended a short time later. His request for supervised release was denied and bail was maintained at $72,000. The charges are allegations, and Clayton is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
