Column: Christian nationalism simply has no place in practice of Christian faith

I’m a local pastor and one recent conversation on a Sunday after church made me convinced that Christian people in our country need to be speaking up loud and clear in rejection of “Christian nationalism.” The Rev. Amy Butler, a local pastor in Honolulu, has stated that Christian people in the country need to reject "Christian nationalism," a political and cultural belief that the United States was founded as a Christian nation and should be given primary power and cultural dominance. She argues that this ideology is not reflective of the teachings of Jesus Christ and that it's incorrect to label it as "Christian." The United States Constitution protects the freedom of every religion and that freedom of religion in America is protected. Butler argues that Christian faith should not be distorted in pursuit of political power. Instead, she urges Christians to focus on loving and caring for their neighbors rather than telling them what to believe.
