HONOLULU (KHON2) — If you’ve made it to three weeks into the New Year with your fitness goals in check, congratulations!

If not, it’s never too late to start. Joining Take2 Tuesday morning with some tips on achieving your goals was fitness coach Holden Moi with UFC Gym.

When starting fitness goals, Moi said “You start at the beginning, you gotta figure out what goals you have. From there you kind of break all of that down.”

“If you have to lose weight you gotta make sure you intake less than you move, and of course, at the end of the day if you’re trying to gain weight you want to eat a little bit more,” Moi added.

Building consistency can be key to continuing a plan.

“Consistency is fairly simple so basically what I try to tell everybody is to schedule their workouts, if you’re one that’s kind of exhausted after your work day is finished what you want to try to do is get to the gym prior to your job because that’s going to get your workout out of the way, and from there you got the rest of your day to focus on eating right moving a little bit more.”

Aside from exercising and moving, there are ways to prioritize health and fitness. Moi recommends drinking plenty of water.

“You want to try to keep your body hydrated because you can start to get cramps, you can get headaches, due to dehydration and things like that so definitely water intake is a big one,”

When it comes to a balanced diet, Moi said to keep things simple and try to eat whole foods.

“You can’t outrun a diet, that’s a big one and another one is abs are made in the kitchen. So if your goal is to get a six pack your job should be in the kitchen,” said Moi. “Make sure you’re eating right, eating clean. Other than that make sure you sleep. Sleep is very underrated. It’s something that most people don’t pay attention to with our lives nowadays.”
