HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Volcano man has been charged in connection with a crash that killed a 26-year-old motorcyclist from Hilo.

Sterling Stroud, 26, was charged with first-degree negligent homicide and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.

The deadly crash happened last Friday around 11:40 p.m. on Kalanianaole Street.

Police said Sterling Stroud was reversing his pick-up truck out of a driveway when he collided with the motorcycle.

The victim, identified as Jared Tellio-Flournoy, was found unresponsive at the scene and died later at the hospital.

It’s believed Stroud was driving under the influence at the time of the crash, police say. He was not injured.

Stroud’s bail has been set at $10,250.
