HONOLULU (KHON2) — There’s a big event coming up this weekend for Lahaina small businesses and local artisans who were impacted by the wildfires offering residents and visitors the opportunity to shop and show their Aloha. Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke and Tambara Garrick with the Lahaina-Town Action Committee stopped by Take2 on Tuesday morning to share more about how this can help small businesses.

“The Kokua for Maui effort came about from a collection of organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, Maui Chamber, LahainaTown Action Committee, and other partners to highlight the loss of revenue and provide opportunities for small, local businesses. This was the result of State, County, and private business leaders coming together to help uplift and support local business,” Lt. Gov. Luke said.

There will be 30 Lahaina small businesses on hand at the event that were impacted by the Aug. 8 wildfires. The event is this Friday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa.

“About half of the vendors participated in some or all of the Holiday Kokua for Maui Shopping events last November. We are really excited for the other vendors who maybe weren’t quite ready at the time but have restocked merchandise, created new artwork and are ready to showcase at this spring break edition of the Kokua for Maui Shop Local & Show Aloha event,” Garrick said.

Visitor arrivals to Maui continue to fall short of numbers before the wildfires.

“As Maui continues to recover, it is vital we continue to support the small, local businesses who help to uplift our community. With Maui still experiencing loss in visitor travel, it is very important that we continue to highlight local businesses to visitors and residents alike,” Lt. Gov. Luke said.

The event is free and features relatively affordable valet parking options.

“Please come shop and support these incredible Lahaina Small Businesses. There will be live entertainment throughout the day including Marvin Tevega Valet Parking is being offered at the Sheraton Maui for just $5, so come shop, enjoy the entertainment, and have a wonderful day supporting Lahaina small businesses,” Garrick added.
