HONOLULU (KHON2) — The winds will be a little stronger today than they were yesterday and today is most likely when they peak.

It will be windy, 20-35 mph sustained winds with gusts up to 50 mph and possibly higher in some areas across the state.

These windy conditions will be with us through the weekend so be prepared to slide your garbage can into the garage, watch out for debris on the roads as well as fallen palm fronds and small tree branches.

The winds will weaken slightly Saturday into Sunday as the high weakens a little, but the winds still may be as high as 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

The winds will finally weaken to breezy levels Monday into Tuesday as the high to the northeast of Hawaii weakens more and pushes off to the east.

The entire island chain has a chance for windward/mauka showers over the next several days. With the stronger winds, some of those showers may blow over to leeward areas. Those showers should not pose major problems.

The low to the northwest of Hawaii is pushing to the west.

We will still have some rain light to moderate rain on the windward side of the entire island chain, but we can cope deal with the strong winds with just a few minor problems.

We are going to have to deal with strong winds, especially from now through the weekend. Debris on the roads and all over the place, downed palm fronds and small tree branches, trash cans blowing away, and other issues that occur when we have strong winds.

Although the winds will gradually weaken beginning Thursday night into Friday, we will still have windy conditions through the weekend before the winds weaken quite a bit Monday into Tuesday to breezy levels.

Wind Advisory: Until 6 p.m. Thursday. This covers most of the island chain. But even if you are not in a shaded area, it will still be windy.

Small Craft Advisory: In effect until 6 a.m. Saturday for all Hawaiian waters. Expect east winds 20 -30 kts and sea heights 9 ft to 13 ft.

Gale Warning: Until 6 p.m. Friday evening for Maalaea Bay, Pailolo Channel, Alenuihaha Channel, Big Island Leeward Waters and Big Island Southeast Waters. Expect east winds up to 35kts.

High Surf Advisory: Until 6 p.m. Friday for East facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai Maui, and the Big Island. Expect surf 8 ft -12 ft.
