The car he was in was hit by a car accident, leaving him paralyzed and injuring six others. The four officers involved in the incident still face a trial in October for conspiracy and hindering prosecution charges. Altogether, the lawsuits are expected to cost the city about $24 million.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - City taxpayers will likely end up paying another $7 million to settle the third and final civil lawsuit connected to a police chase and crash in Makaha.
Dayten Gouveia was 15 years old in September 2021 when the car he was in was allegedly chased by HPD officers who were breaking up a beach party.
Gouveia was paralyzed when the car rolled through a field and slammed into a wall.
In all, six people in that car were injured.
