Sjarif Goldstein: Stirring Hawaii Bowl victory made fans out of all of us

Most of the time when I meet someone and they find out I work in the Star-Advertiser sports department, the response is the same: “Oh, wow, so you get to go to all the games!” Sjarif Goldstein, a sports reporter for the Star-Advertiser, has been with the sports department for 25 years and has attended all pro Bowls from his home office. His main role was on the production desk, editing, and choosing stories off the wire, but he rarely attends games. Until recently, he attended only a few men’s basketball games and one softball game. The last UH football game he attended was at Fresno State in 2000. So when sports editor Curtis Murayama said he wouldn't need to work on Christmas Eve, Goldstein asked his family to go to the Hawaii Bowl. The team's victory over Cal made him feel optimistic about the team's chances of winning the game.
