DHHL hopes these factory-built homes will help solve a housing problem
For years, Native Hawaiian beneficiaries have faced lengthy wait times for housing. The Department of Hawaiian Homelands (DHHL) is launching a pilot program with modular homes, which they hope will reduce their waitlist of beneficiaries. The homes are built in a Buena Vista Colorado factory and can be assembled on site in upcoming communities. They arrive on a barge on a Monday and arrive a week and a half from there, with full appliances and fully painted. The modular homes cost between $250,000 and $350,000, and DHHL is able to offer below-market value. The cost for the 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home is $585,600 compared to the normal market value of $670,000. Fading West Development is the company behind these homes.
