This year, authorities have implemented stricter laws in response to the tragedy, including $300 tickets for those who shoot off fireworks, and repeat offenders who cause serious injury or death could face prison time for felony crimes. The new laws were introduced after the tragedy which left several people severely injured and left more than a dozen with severe burns. However, Lambert expects some people to stop setting off fireworks due to the increased enforcement and new laws. An amnesty event was held last month where people turned in 500 pounds of illegal fireworks and increased searches at ports.
