The state Public Utilities Commission is considering a possible special proceeding to examine and improve service reliability of Hawaii’s largest power company, Hawaiian Electric. The state Public Utilities Commission (PUC) is considering a special proceeding to examine and improve service reliability of Hawaiian Electric, the state's largest power company. The commission is holding informational meetings across the state, focusing on weather-related service impacts. Ratepayers are encouraged to share concerns and feedback about reliability, and submit written comments to the PUC and the Division of Consumer Advocacy at the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. So far, the commission has held two meetings on Oahu and one on Hawaii island. The first meeting was held Oct. 5 at Kailua High School with a focus on service on the eastern and windward sides of the island. Shari Ishikawa, Hawaiian Electric's vice president of energy delivery, said the company had a good response to recent storms, including Hurricane Lala.
