The pedestrian was hit by a white 2014 BMW X5 while trying to remove a chicken carcass from the road, but the BMW driver fled the scene and did not stop and help the pedestrian. Maui police located the BMW and the 34-year female driver, who were later arrested for Collisions Involving Death or Serious Bodily Injury, later released pending investigation. The life of a 44 year-old male motorbikeist was also claimed in Waipahu following a motor vehicle collision on the H-1 Freeway.

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Two motor vehicle collisions on Oahu and Maui claimed the lives of a 39-year-old Lahaina pedestrian and 44-year-old motorcyclist.

On Friday, Maui police responded to a collision on Honoapiilani Highway when it was reported that a 39-year-old Lahaina woman was attempting to grab a chicken carcass out of the road before a white 2014 BMW X5 hit her.

Reports said the BMW driver failed to stop and help the pedestrian and instead “fled the scene northeastbound on Honoapiilani Highway.

The pedestrian was treated at Maui Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment for critical life-threatening injuries. During treatment, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and died.

The same night, Maui police located the BMW and the 34-year-old female driver who was arrested for Collisions Involving Death or Serious Bodily Injury.

MPD said the driver was later released pending investigation.

The life of a 44-year-old male motorcyclist was claimed in Waipahu on Saturday following a motor vehicle collision on the H-1 Freeway.

According to HPD’s Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, a 50-year-old male driver slowed down on the highway due to another crash.

The driver was then rear-ended by the motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed. The motorcyclist was thrown onto the roadway, succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
