A 28-year-old Waipahu man will spend 22 years in federal prison for using the gaming platform Roblox and chat application Discord to lure at least 10 underage girls into making child pornography. A 28-year-old Waipahu man, David Yamamoto, has been sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for using the gaming platform Roblox and chat application Discord to lure at least 10 underage girls into making child pornography. Yamamoto posed as a 16-year old boy online and exchanged tens of thousands of online messages with minors ranging in age from 10 to 17. He was sentenced after pleading guilty to production of child pornography as part of an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice. He will be a registered sex offender, banned from direct contact with anyone under the age of 18 and banned from areas with children. U.K. Attorney Ken Sorenson stated that Yamamoto's sentence sends a strong message that those who exploit children will face harsh penalties in federal court. Roblix and Discord are currently facing over 180 lawsuits alleging that the platforms failed to adequately protect their young users.
