Two new exhibits, with art by the late kuma hula Nālani kanakaʻole, at Bishop Museum on Oʻahu
Fifteen new pieces have been added to an exhibit featuring a family of artists, including the late kumu hula Nālani Kanakaʻole, who passed away on Jan. 3. Bishop Museum in Honolulu has added two new cultural installations to its historic Hawaiian Hall Complex, including art by the late kuma hula Nālani Kanakaʻole. The Honolulu museum is rotating 15 pieces into the “Ea Mai ‘Eiwa: Patterns of Practice” exhibition, which includes works by three exhibiting artists: Sig Zane, Kūhaʻoʻīmaikalani Zane and their collaborators. The exhibition's theme is the evolution of traditional craft genres, with a series of pāʻū titled “The Five Wives of Kumukahi (2020)” inspired by Kumu Hula Joseph’s (1873–1965) moʻoles. The installation also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Protect Kaho‘olawe ‘Ohana.
