The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) is advancing its proposed $651.8 million budget for fiscal year 2028, while a report recommending feasibility studies for potential east-west Skyline extensions has been deferred until November. The HART board of directors cancelled its full meeting due to lack of members and did not discuss the Oct. 2 report, which recommends studying potential rail extensions west into Kapolei and east toward Ala Moana Center. The proposed extensions have strong support from Mayor Rick Blangiardi, state agencies including the Office of Planning and Sustainable Development and Hawai’i Community Development Authority, the Honolulu City Council, and major property owners near the proposed stations. The PIG recommends studying a $2.2 billion to $2.,5 billion eastbound extension and a $3.3 billion westbound extension to a proposed station near Ka Makana Ali‘i shopping center.
