Capitol celebrates Easter with gift baskets for good

The annual Easter at the Capital event was hosted for the 25th year in a row Wednesday, March 27. The annual Easter at the Capital event took place at the Hawaii Women's Legislative Caucus for the 25th consecutive year. A basket drive was held by legislators and staff members to collect essential household items for those in need. The baskets are then sent off to non-profits in Hawaii, including five organizations whose have been instrumental in helping victims of the Lahaina fire. The items include household products, toys, and food items for families and children in need throughout the state.

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The annual Easter at the Capital event was hosted for the 25th year in a row Wednesday, March 27.

A basket drive was held by the Hawaii Women’s Legislative Caucus for those in need.

Legislators and staff members assembled baskets with essential household items in them and dropped them off in the rotunda.

The baskets then get sent off with the Easter Bunny to a number of non-profits in Hawaii.

“There’s five different organizations that will be recipients. of course, in regards to the Lahaina fire these organizations have been very helpful to those people that have lost a lot,” said Sen. Lynn Decoite (D).

“The baskets are put together by those in the legislature and they include household products, toys, some food items, for families and children in need throughout our state,” added Rep. Scott Saiki (D).
